As a significant country along the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road," Singapore serves as a pivotal transportation hub and a convergence point of geopolitical relationships within the maritime Silk Road network. Dr. Zhang Lu, a cultural ambassador and maritime Silk Road expert for both Singapore and China, has dedicated tremendous efforts and contributions to the cultural exchange and friendship between the two nations. She has authored several bestselling books, with her essay collection "Traces of the Heart" consistently topping new book sales charts. Dr. Zhang Lu's historical and profound work "Mirror of the River Heart on the Silk Road" explores the splendid beauty of the maritime Silk Road and the collaborative process of building maritime civilizations among nations along the Silk Road route.
The Shanghai Chronicles has recognized Dr. Zhang Lu's work "Mirror of the River Heart on the Silk Road" as a major event of the year in their English edition for 2020. It was widely promoted during the Shanghai International Import Expo and gained attention through interviews and reports by the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, and The Paper. According to these sources, this stands as the sole legendary story of the maritime Silk Road to date. With great anticipation from readers, Dr. Zhang Lu's latest work, "Mirror of the River Heart," is set to be published in Singapore and distributed globally.
Established in 2003 by Dr. Tan Ta Sen and Dr. Leo Suryadinata, the Singapore International Zheng He Society is the only NGO in Singapore dedicated to the research of Zheng He's historical and cultural heritage in the western seas as well as his contemporary significance. In 2022, esteemed Chinese literary figure and maritime Silk Road expert, Dr. Zhang Lu, was passionately recommended by Dr. Tan Ta Sen and subsequently elected as the President of the Singapore International Zheng He Society by the unanimous vote of the executive committee.
Under the guidance of the Zheng He spirit and the inspirational leadership of President Zhang Lu, the society has attracted numerous seasoned experts and scholars, evolving into an international Zheng He cultural research center and a platform for international cultural exchange that transcends disciplines and borders. It has become a hub for talents from various fields, actively contributing to the protection and development of Zheng He's culture and historical heritage, researching the history and culture of the maritime Silk Road and the Spice Route in the western seas, and exploring heritage and art.
The spirit of exploration and peaceful cooperation embodied by Zheng He is particularly precious in today's post-pandemic era. Zheng He's culture has become a unique historical and cultural resource in the Indo-Pacific region, wielding substantial influence both domestically and internationally. The Zheng He spirit and culture have transformed into a shared global treasure.
The Singapore Zheng He Society is currently seeking to recruit more passionate individuals who share an interest in the Zheng He spirit and maritime Silk Road culture. The society leverages the Zheng He culture to foster international exchanges and collaborations, propagate maritime Silk Road culture, and promote cross-cultural dialogue. In the future, the society aims to facilitate cooperation across various domains among countries along the maritime Silk Road, while also delving into deeper levels of international cultural exchange.
Civilizations know no boundaries, as the stars shine brightly over the maritime Silk Road!
